Find out more about these Mediterranean gems and how you could win a £1000 Thomas Cook holiday voucher and other great prizes.
As the autumn leaves fall in the UK, the ground is awash with vibrant colours and our plates filled with comforting seasonal flavours. For potato growers in Italy, it is what’s underground that is most important, as Italian New potatoes are preparing to be harvested, packed and delivered to Tesco stores nationwide.
Matching perfectly with the flavours of autumn, Italian New potatoes make a great addition to spicy tagines, roasted meat, warming casseroles and pies. And for a classic Mediterranean twist, pair them with pesto, garlic, onion, balsamic and cheeses.
New potatoes thrive in a warm and sunny climate. They grow really well in the spring and early summer in the UK, which is why we often tend to think of them as a seasonal summertime treat.
Available in stores from the end of October, we get the benefit of Italy still basking in the sunshine while we’re starting to feel the chill. As the temperature turns on our shores, the growing conditions in Italy are perfect for New potatoes, with balmy days that are often as warm as our summer ones.
The Puglia region in the sunny southeast is renowned for its fresh produce and our Italian New potatoes are grown by Guiseppe Distaso along a ten mile strip of coastline in free-draining sandy soil. They are still harvested in the traditional Italian way, gently by hand, to protect their delicate skins and ensure they arrive in Tesco stores in optimum condition.
To celebrate the arrival of Italian new potatoes, we’re giving away a £1000 Thomas Cook gift card to spend on a fantastic holiday. We’d, of course, recommend a trip to the southern tip of Italy but you can spend this on any holiday you choose. Just pick up a pack of Italian New potatoes in store and follow the instructions to be in with a chance to win.
We’ve also got an exciting competition over on our Facebook page where you can win a Meraviglioso Italian Hamper from Just So Italian.
