Back to school: week-long lunchbox recipe plan the kids will love

As summer comes to a close, it’s time for parents to start planning for the new school term ready for the start of the new academic year in September.

The school morning routine is a busy one at the best of times: getting the kids ready and dressed, making breakfast, balancing household chores – and all before 9am. With these responsibilities taking priority, the school lunchbox can often be overlooked and filled with quick choices rather than good quality food.

According to NHS Choices a balanced lunchbox should contain:

  • Starchy foods like bread, rice, potatoes or pasta
  • Protein foods like meat, fish, eggs or beans
  • A dairy item, like cheese or yogurt
  • Vegetables or salad and a portion of fruit

Our lunchbox ideas can all be prepared ahead of time and kept in the fridge, ready to grab and go on the way out of the door. Ingredients in our recipes can be scaled up to make several days’ worth of meals at once, or halved for a different meal every day like we have done here.
